The following 56 genera and 250 species and subspecies of ants are known to occur in Mozambique. Unidentified and undescribed species will be added to this list as identifications are verified and taxonomic revisions are published. This species list is based upon the effort of many ant collectors as well as myrmecologists who have published on the taxonomy of Mozambique ants. Those who have specimen records that expand this list are encouraged to submit this information in the discussion section of the Mozambique Ants web page. Please advise if any corrections are warranted.

The Afrotropical Region has 99 genera and 2,501 species of ants. Mozambique in southern Africa is adjacent to the following countries: South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Lesotho, and Eswatini.

Mozambique has been the focus of attention by various ant collectors, including Brian Fisher's studies of a larger region of Africa that includes the country. MCZ researchers and a recent ant course have also collected in Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique.
