Social Immunity
Ant colonies appear to serve as a rich target for pathogens: tight knit social groups living in moist environments, with colonies of many species representing groups of highly related individuals.
How ants may deal with what has become know as a social immunity has become an interesting research area. One recent publication tested how colonies of Myrmica rubra responded to dead ants infected with a deadly ant fungal pathogen.
