Nests of Lasius sonobei are constructed in the soil and under stones. Nuptial flights take place during August and September (Japanese Ant Image Database).

Distribution
Lasius sonobei is abundant in southern regions in Japan, but rare in the Tohoku district of northern Honshu. The northernmost distribution record is Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture (Japanese Ant Image Database).
