This species is a mutualist for the aphid Hysteroneura setariae (a trophobiont) (Idechiil et al., 2007; Saddiqui et al., 2019).

- Type-material: holotype worker, 37 paratype workers, 1 paratype queen.
- Type-locality: holotype Samoa: Sava’i I., Matega, W coast, 70 m., 20.iii.1962, acc. no. 387 (R.W. Taylor & G. Ettershank); paratypes: 7 workers, 1 queen with same data, 30 workers with same data but acc. nos 388, 389, 404, 408, 411, 412.
- Type-depositories: MCZC (holotype); ANIC, BPBM, MCZC (paratypes).
- Status as species: Dlussky, 1994: 55; Bolton, 1995b: 113; Wetterer & Vargo, 2003: 416.
- Distribution: Samoa.
