Description
Worker
Bolton (2000) - Holotype. The single species is adequately characterised by the species-group features. S. wilsoni is a moderately sized species (HL 0.80-0.82, HW 0.62-0.63, SL 0.38-0.39, ML 0.28-0.29) with CI 77-78. MI ca 35, markedly greater here than in any known member of the leptothrix-group (where MI is < 20) but the scapes are relatively short (SI 61-62), as is normal in the leptothrix-group. The eye has 5 ommatidia in the longest row and the cuticle within the scrobe is densely reticulate-punctate. Clypeal dorsum smooth and shining; head behind clypeus finely reticulate-punctate, though in both places most of the surface is concealed by the dense rows of appressed spatulate hairs. Sides of alitrunk smooth and shining, with vestiges of sculpture around the margins. Dorsolateral margins of pronotum with a longitudinal row of appressed spatulate hairs; those on the pronotal dorsum directed toward the midline.
Type Material
