Nothing is known about the biology of Strumigenys roganas.
Identification
Bolton (2000) - A member of the ebbae complex in the Strumigenys koningsbergeri-group. The broad flattened scape seen in roganas is shared only with Strumigenys naberia within the ebbae-complex. In both of these SL is only about 4.5 X the maximum width of the scape. In all other species of the complex the scape is much narrower, with SL 6.0-8.0 X the maximum width of the scape. The specialised pilosity easily separates the two species as in naberia the hairs on the upper scrobe margins and leading edges of the scapes are small and spoon-shaped whilst in roganas the hairs in these places are elongate and narrowly spatulate.

Description
Worker
Holotype. TL 1.9, HL 0.56, HW 0.45, CI 80, ML 0.22, MI 39, SL 0.29, SI 64, PW 0.26, AL 0.53. With characters of ebbae-complex. Preapical tooth short-conical and straight, its length only about half width of mandible at point where it arises. Inner margin of mandible straight to extremely weakly convex proximal of preapical tooth, not sinuate, the inner margin with a sharp-edged crest but without a prominent broad translucent lamella. Ventrolateral margin of head without a preocular concavity, the margin narrowing somewhat in front of the eye. Upper scrobe margins evenly divergent posteriorly, almost straight; outer arc of eye visible in full-face view. Edge of upper scrobe margin finely irregular but not jagged, without a series of sharp triangular peaks or tubercles. Hairs that fringe upper scrobe margin slender, linear-spatulate. Scape dorsoventrally flattened and broad, SL only about 4.5 X the maximum width of the scape. Leading edge of scape broadly convex; hairs on leading edge elongate, narrowly spatulate and curved, the longest of them slightly exceeding the maxi mum width of the scape. Posterior vertex of head without a transverse depression. Dorsum of head in profile with short erect hairs along occipital margin, 1-2 on dorsum of occipital lobe and a single pair at highest point of vertex; without erect hairs anterior to this. Mesonotum with a single pair of short erect hairs. Katepisternum smooth, metapleuron and side of propodeum finely reticulate-punctate or with a smooth patch. Bullae of femoral glands inconspicuous or absent on middle and hind legs. Lamella on propodeal declivity with posterior (free) margin shallowly concave. Disc of postpetiole smooth. Standing hairs on first gastral tergite either blunt or weakly flattened and expanded apically.
Paratypes. TL 1.8-1.9, HL 0.52-0.56, HW 0.42-0.46, CI 78-82, ML 0.22-0.24, MI 39-44, SL 0.26-0.30, SI 62-65, PW 0.24-0.26, AL 0.48-0.55 (5 measured).
Dimensions of non-paratypic workers. HL 0.54-0.59, HW 0.44-0.48, CI 78-85, ML 0.22-0.25, MI 40-42, SL 0.28-0.30, SI 60-65 (10 measured).
The non-paratypic material mostly matches the above description but the specimens from Pasoh Forest Reserve have the hairs on the leading edge of the scape straighter, and the katepisternum in these workers is finely reticulate rather than smooth.
Type Material
Holotype worker, Indonesia: Sumatra, Kotomalintang, 12.vii.1992, 750 m., SUM 441 (Deharveng & Bedos) (Musee National d'Histoire Naturelle). Paratypes. 1 worker with same data as holotype; 3 workers with same data but SUM 440; 2 workers, Sumatra, lambi, Muarabungo, 12.vi.1991, 150 m., SUM 348 (Deharveng & Bedos) (MNHNG, The Natural History Museum, Museum of Comparative Zoology).
