Nomenclature

Description
Worker
Holotype. TL 2.9, HL 0.71, HW 0.54, CI 76, ML 0.34, MI 48, SL 0.42, SI 78, PW 0.34, AL 0.75. Mandible broadest just distal of the base and its outer margin not bowed outwards. Proximal preapical tooth stout, shorter than maximum width of mandible. Proximal preapical tooth on left mandible shorter than distance separating it from base of apicodorsal tooth. Left distal preapical tooth conical, about half the length of the proximal. Scape subcylindrical, narrower than maximum diameter of eye; the latter with 5-6 ommatidia in the longest row. Preocular notch small but conspicuous. Curved hairs that fringe upper scrobe margin small, slightly shorter and narrower than the spatulate hairs on the leading edge of the scape. Cephalic ground-pilosity very short, sparse and inconspicuous. Spongiform appendages well developed in profile: petiole with a deep ventral curtain and small lateral lobe; postpetiole with a broad lateral lobe and a broad deep ventral lobe. Postpetiole swollen, broad in dorsal view, broadly convex in profile; glassy smooth.
Paratypes. TL 2.8-3.0, HL 0.66-0.78, HW 0.51-0.60, CI 76-77, ML 0.33-0.38, MI 47-50, SL 0.40-0.46, SI 77-79, PW 0.31-0.35, AL 0.70-0.77 (6 measured). Holotype and paratypes from site 3 black, but paratypes from site 4 brown.
Type Material
Holotype worker, Tanzania: W Usambara Forests, nr Shume Gologolo, 13.v.1996, 4°42.28'S, 38°13.47'E, site 3, leaf litter, montane forest (H. G. Robertson) (South African Museum).
Paratypes. 7 workers with same data as holotype; 6 workers with same data but site 4, 4°43.06'S, 38°17.27'E (SAMC, The Natural History Museum, Museum of Comparative Zoology).
