Nomenclature
The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.
- abdominalis. Rhytidoponera subcyanea subsp. abdominalis Viehmeyer, 1912: 4, fig. 1 (w.) NEW GUINEA (Papua New Guinea).
- Type-material: 6 syntype workers.
- Type-locality: Papua New Guinea (“Deutsch Neuguinea”): Torricelli Mts (640 m.), 17-18.ix.1909 (O. Schlaginhaufen).
- Type-depositories: MNHU, SMTD.
- Subspecies of subcyanea: Chapman & Capco, 1951: 28.
- Status as species: Wilson, 1958d: 306; Brown, 1958g: 202; Bolton, 1995b: 378.
- Distribution: Papua New Guinea.
