Nomenclature
The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.
- peruanus. Odontomachus haematodes var. peruana Stitz, 1933: 68 (q.) PERU.
- Type-material: holotype queen.
- Type-locality: Peru: Chanchamayo (S. Paessler).
- Type-depository: Hamburg Museum (destroyed in World War II (Brown, 1976a: 163)).
- Subspecies of haematodus: Kempf, 1972a: 171; Brandão, 1991: 364.
- Status as species: Bolton, 1995b: 296; Bezděčková, et al. 2015: 124.
- Unidentifiable taxon: Brown, 1976a: 163 (as nomen dubium).
- [Note: regarded by Brown, 1976a: 163, as a nomen dubium because the holotype was destroyed and the original description was inadequate to suggest an identity, it is probably best now to regard peruanus as an unidentifiable taxon.]
