Nylanderia ryukyuensis is commonly distributed from the lowland to mountain area until 2,500 m in altitude (Terayama 2009). It nests in leaf litter, rotting wood and the soil, in forested sites (Japanese Ant Image Database).

Identification

This species is distinguished from its Japanese congeners by the coloration of the gaster in workers and females (Japanese Ant Image Database).
