Nomenclature

The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.

• ruficornis. Formica ruficornis Fabricius, 1804: 397 (q.) INDIA. Junior synonym of flavus: Roger, 1862c: 285; Mayr, 1886d: 429. Unidentifiable to genus; incertae sedis in Lasius: Bolton, 1995b: 225. [Identity of this taxon is unknowable (material lost, description very vague), so Roger's synonymy may stand. Emery's, 1925b: 231, provisional synonymy of ruficornis with nearcticus is certainly incorrect.]
