De Oliveira et al. (2015), studying ant occupancy of Cecropia trees in southwest Bahia, Brazil, found a colony of Dorymyrmex thoracicus nesting in a Cecropia pachystachya tree.

Combination in Conomyrma (Biconomyrma): Kusnezov, 1952g: 430; in Dorymyrmex: Shattuck, 1992c: 85. Current subspecies: nominal plus gracilis, tigris.
