The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's New General Catalogue, a catalogue of the world's ants.

  • cupreum. Ponera cuprea Smith, F. 1860b: 104 (w.) NEW GUINEA. Combination in Diacamma: Mayr, 1886c: 361. Subspecies of geometricum: Emery, 1887b: 438. Revived status as species: Donisthorpe, 1932c: 462.

Ponera cuprea

Holotype worker in Oxford University Museum of Natural History. Labelled “Dor. 19” (= Dory I., New Guinea) and also with a Donisthorpe type-label. The “obscure coppery tinge” reported in the original description appears to have faded away.
