Cryptopone gilvatumida Branstetter & Longino, 2022 |
This species occurs in cloud forest habitats from 1400-2040 m elevation. Most specimens are from Winkler samples of sifted leaf litter and rotten wood. Three nests were found in and under rotting wood in a small cloud forest clearing near Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. The larvae have five pairs of dorsal doorknob-shaped tubercles, as described for Cryptopone gilva (Wheeler and Wheeler 1952). (Branstetter & Longino, 2022)
Identification
Petiolar node less tapering than Cryptopone gilvagrande, dorsally more rounded than Cryptopone guatemalensis (Fig. 8B and C); HW > 0.62.
See comments under Cryptopone guatemalensis regarding the separation of C. guatemalensis and C. gilvatumida. Among the 3 COI barcodes for this species, the maximum intraspecific pairwise distance was 4%, and the smallest interspecific distance was 5%.

(B) and (D) occurred together in the same Winkler sample, and sequencing placed them in different clades.
