This species is abundant near sea shores and nests under stones or (rarely) inside the wood of dead trees (Japanese Ant Image Database).

Identification

Within Japan, C. nawai is distinguishable from other species because its thoracic dorsum is convex and not margined laterally and its petiole is longer than wide. Note that identifications of specimens as C. nawai in literature preceding Onoyama (1976) are likely to be erroneous (Onoyama, 1980).
