    • Type-material: 4 syntype major workers, 12 syntype minor workers, 1 syntype queen, 1 syntype male.
    • Type-locality: South Africa: E Griqualand, nr Mt Frere, 4500 ft (G. Arnold).
    • Type-depositories: BMNH, SAMC.
    • Subspecies of transvaalensis: Bolton, 1995b: 102.
    • Distribution: South Africa.
