- Type-material: syntype major and minor workers, syntype queen(s), syntype male(s) (numbers not stated).
- Type-locality: Sri Lanka (“Ceylon”): (no further data but probably Ambalangoda), 1908-09 (E. & I. Bugnion).
- Type-depository: MHNG.
- Combination in C. (Tanaemyrmex): Emery, 1925b: 92.
- Subspecies of maculatus: Forel, 1912n: 63.
