Nomenclature

The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.

  • similis. Camponotus (Tanaemyrmex) similis Donisthorpe, 1933b: 198 (s.w.) MYANMAR.
    • Type-material: syntype major and minor workers (numbers not stated).
    • [Note: this taxon is based on workers of badia (F. Smith, 1857a: 54), sensu Bingham, 1903: 358, misidentification.]
    • Type-locality: Myanmar (“Burma”): (no further data) (C.T. Bingham).
    • [Note: Bingham, 1903: 358, in his misidentification of badia cites both major and minor workers from Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia (Peninsula and Borneo); but Donisthorpe, 1933b: 198, apparently cites only a single specimen, “Type in Coll. Brit. Mus”. This is assumed here to be from Myanmar where Bingham did much collecting but must be regarded as one among an original syntype series from all three localities.]
    • Type-depository: BMNH (perhaps also OXUM).
    • [Junior primary homonym of Camponotus similis Mayr, 1876: 61.]
    • Status as species: Donisthorpe, 1943b: 203; Chapman & Capco, 1951: 250; Wang, C., Xiao & Wu, 1989a: 223 (in key); Tiwari, 1999: 71; Guénard & Dunn, 2012: 27 (error).
    • [Note: Guénard & Dunn, 2012: 27, incorrectly enter this taxon as Calomyrmex similis (Mayr), a strictly Australian species; the replacement name sklarus is omitted from their list.]
    • Replacement name: Camponotus sklarus Bolton, 1995b: 124.
  • sklarus. Camponotus sklarus Bolton, 1995b: 124.
    • Replacement name for Camponotus (Tanaemyrmex) similis Donisthorpe, 1933b: 198. [Junior primary homonym of Camponotus similis Mayr, 1876: 61.]
    • Status as species: Bharti, Guénard, et al. 2016: 26; Dias, R.K.S. et al. 2020: 38.
    • Distribution: Malaysia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka
