Found to be quite common in cocoa farms in Nigeria (Taylor, 1977 Taylor & Adedoyin 1978), it was reported from a mango (Mangifera indica) orchard and was observed prey of Oecophylla longinoda by Taylor et al., (2018). This species was recorded and illustrated by Taylor (1978) as “Camponotus foraminosus dorsalis”.

- Type-material: 9 major and minor syntype workers.
- Type-localities: 6 workers Nigeria: Olokemeji (F. Silvestri) (invalid restriction of type-locality by Wheeler, W.M. 1922a: 980; no lectotype designated), 3 workers Ghana (“Gold Coast”): Aburi (F. Silvestri).
- Type-depository: NHMB (perhaps also DEUN).
- Subspecies of foraminosus Wheeler, W.M. 1922a: 250, 980.
