Nomenclature
The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.
- geralensis. Camponotus (Pseudocolobopsis) macrocephalus subsp. geralensis Emery, 1920c: 36 (s.w.q.) BRAZIL.
- Subspecies of macrocephalus: Santschi, 1939e: 329.
- Junior synonym of macrocephalus: Kempf, 1968b: 408; Bolton, 1995b: 101.
- [Note: geralensis was proposed as a replacement name for Camponotus macrocephalus Emery, 1894c: 169, by Shattuck & McArthur, 1995: 122, as both this name and Formica macrocephala Erichson, 1842: 259, were at that time together in Camponotus, and the junior name was a secondary homonym. As the two names now occupy different genera, the replacement name is redundant.]
