The University of Texas Insect Collection (UTIC) contains 500,000 pinned and 1.5 million ethanol-preserved specimens. UTIC is particularly strong in Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, and Hymenoptera (Aculeata), and holds special collections in cave invertebrates, Galapagos arthropods, and historical Texan mosquitoes. Interestingly, UTIC houses William Morton Wheeler's pre-1900 general non-ant collections from the upper midwest and Wood's Hole, and Jack Longino's first ant collection from Costa Rica.

UTIC's Formicidae include ~15,000 curated, identified pins with a geographic focus on Texas and the South American subtropics. Notable contributing collectors include Larry Gilbert, Sanford Porter, John Carroll, Bill MacKay, Ed LeBrun, Steven Wang, and Alex Wild.
