Technomyrmex champasakensis Jaitrong & Yamane, 2024 |
Technomyrmex champasakensis was found in a highland coffee plantation (ca. 1000 m a.s.l.). The ants nested under and between the leaves of a coffee tree. The nest was large, containing over 10,000 workers and one queen. The ants were observed attending to scale insects on the coffee tree (Fig. 44A–C).

Identification
Technomyrmex champasakensis is most similar to Technomyrmex reductus in having palp formula 4,3, lacking long erect setae on the dorsa of the head and mesosoma, and a weakly convex propodeal dorsum.
However, T. champasakensis can be separated from T. reductus by the following characteristics:
- gastral tergite II with short erect setae (with without erect setae in T. reductus)
- pronotal setae longer than diameter of propodeal spiracle (shorter than diameter of propodeal spiracle in T. reductus)
- body larger (TL 2.97–3.47 mm; HW0.63–0.69 mm in T. champasakensis; TL 2.87–2.97 mm, HW 0.59–0.66 mm in T. reductus)
- body black (reddish brown in T. reductus)
