Nomenclature
The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.
- major. Monomorium (Isolcomyrmex) santschii var. major Bernard, 1953a: 168 (w.) ALGERIA.
- Subspecies of santschii: Ettershank, 1966: 90.
- Status as species: Bolton, 1995b: 264; Borowiec, L. 2014: 121 (error).
- Synonym of santschii, santschianum: Bolton, 1995b: 264.
Taxonomic Notes
Bolton, 1995b: 264, gave seniority to major because of then current homonymic status, but santschii Forel, 1907b: 203, has priority on transfer of santschii from Monomorium to Trichomyrmex, with redundancy of homonymy.
