Don, Warwick A.
BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Warwick Don was born in Reefton, New Zealand, received his early education in Waihi (The Coromandel) and later attended Otago Boys' High School in Dunedin.
After graduating BSc and MSc (First Class Honours in Zoology), he then taught biology and zoology in the Department of Zoology, University of Otago, for over 30 years, retiring in 1997. His main teaching interests were invertebrate biology, general entomology, insect sociality and vertebrate evolution (including human evolution), and he has authored and co-authored several scientific papers, mainly on New Zealand ants.
A life-long interest in ants was sparked by a popular book by an American myrmecologist, H.C. McCook, and has been further fuelled by the writings of Edward O. Wilson and others. A keen interest is maintained in science and science education, and he vehemently opposes, by means of articles and letters to the editor, any attempts to erode their integrity by those with non-science agendas.
He is a past chairman of the New Zealand Skeptics, and currently is Honorary Curator in Entomology, Otago Museum.
