Nomenclature
The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.
- luciae. Crematogaster (Atopogyne) luciae Forel, 1913b: 325 (q.) SIERRA LEONE.
- Type-material: holotype (?) queen.
- [Note: no indication of number of specimens is given.]
- Type-locality: Sierra Leone (no further data) (invalid restriction of type-locality by Wheeler, W.M. 1922a: 857; no lectotype designated).
- [Notes (i): this taxon is based on queens originally described as C. concava Emery, 1899e: 482, from three localities; one in Cameroon, one in Democratic Republic of Congo, one in Sierra Leone; (ii) Forel’s 1913b: 325, statement implies that all queens were transferred to luciae, but as the first two were accompanied by workers (and described as concava), only the Sierra Leone isolate remains to constitute type-material of luciae.]
- Type-depository: MSNG.
- Combination in C. (Sphaerocrema): Emery, 1922e: 153.
- Status as species: Forel, 1913e: 668; Forel, 1913h: 353; Forel, 1916: 411; Emery, 1922e: 153.
- Subspecies of wellmani: Santschi, 1916b: 500; Wheeler, W.M. 1922a: 857; Santschi, 1925h: 162; Santschi, 1926b: 218; Santschi, 1930b: 55; Menozzi, 1942: 168; Bolton, 1995b: 156.
- Distribution: Angola, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone.
