Identification
Hosoishi and Ogata (2016) - A member of the Crematogaster quadriruga group. We have not been able to examine the types of C. gavapiga. From the original description and key provided by Menozzi (1935), this species is close to Crematogaster bandarensis. He distinguished C. gavapiga from C. bandarensis by smooth and shining surface of dorsal mesosoma. However, some specimens in our collections of C. bandarensis have smooth and shining surface of dorsal mesosoma, suggesting that the character state seen in C. gavapiga is within the infraspecific variation of C. bandarensis. Taxonomic relationship with C. bandarensis will remain uncertain until type material can be examined.

Countries Occupied
Number of countries occupied by this species based on AntWiki Regional Taxon Lists. In general, fewer countries occupied indicates a narrower range, while more countries indicates a more widespread species. |
Estimated Abundance
Relative abundance based on number of AntMaps records per species (this species within the purple bar). Fewer records (to the left) indicates a less abundant/encountered species while more records (to the right) indicates more abundant/encountered species. |
