Distribution
Almost all of the mainland Japanese ants formerly identified as C. sauteri are in fact Carebara yamatonis. True representatives of C. sauteri have been collected only on Taiwan and the Senkaku Islands in Japan (Japanese Ant Image Database).

Taxonomic Notes
In Wu and Wang’s (1992) study, Carebara hunanensis was mistakenly identified as C. sauteri but was later corrected by Terayama (Wu and Wang 1995) (Liu et al., 2024).
