- Type-material: 3 syntype major workers, 2 syntype minor workers.
- Type-locality: Angola: Quifangondo (F. Silvestri).
- Type-depository: NHMB (perhaps also DEUN).
- Combination in O. (Oligomyrmex): Emery, 1924d: 217;
- combination in Carebara: Fernández, 2004a: 235.
- Status as species: Wheeler, W.M. 1922a: 881; Emery, 1924d: 217; Santschi, 1930b: 55; Weber, 1950a: 4; Ettershank, 1966: 123; Bolton, 1995b: 299.
- Distribution: Angola.
- Current subspecies: nominal plus congolensis.
