Nomenclature

The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.

    • Type-material: 2 syntype major workers, 9 syntype minor workers.
    • Type-localities: 2 major workers, 5 minor workers Kenya (“Afrique orientale anglaise”): Shimoni, st. no. 9, xi.1911 (Ch. Alluaud & R. Jeannel) (invalid restriction of type-locality by Wheeler, W.M. 1922a: 881; no lectotype designated), 4 minor workers Kenya: Kijabé, Kikuyu Escarpment, 2100 m., st. no. 27. xii.1911 (Ch. Alluaud & R. Jeannel).
    • [Note: type-locality data from Santschi, 1914b: 81; Santschi, 1913e: 459, mistakenly gives “Kilimanjaro”;]
    • Type-depository: NHMB.
    • [Also described as new by Santschi, 1914b: 81 (s.w. descriptions).]
    • Combination in O. (Oligomyrmex): Emery, 1924d: 217;
    • combination in Carebara: Fernández, 2004a: 235.
    • Status as species: Santschi, 1914b: 81; Wheeler, W.M. 1922a: 881; Emery, 1924d: 217; Weber, 1950a: 3; Ettershank, 1966: 123; Bolton, 1995b: 298; Hita Garcia, et al. 2013: 208.
    • Senior synonym of kenyensis (unnecessary replacement name): Bolton, 1995b: 298.
    • Distribution: Kenya.
    • Current subspecies: nominal plus cataractae.
  • kenyensis. Oligomyrmex kenyensis Ettershank, 1966: 123.
