Aphaenogaster georgica Arnol'di, 1968 |
Arnoldi (1968) described Aphaenogaster georgica from Georgia (Dmanisi and Shiraki) and Azerbaijan (Alpout) based on 28 workers and compared this taxon only with Aphaenogaster splendida. In the comments section he noted that A. georgica is similar to Aphaenogaster transcaucasica and that the lack of sexual forms makes it difficult to compare both species. Later he concluded that if A. georgica is a separate taxon perhaps it should maintain a status of a subspecies of A. transcaucasica. All characters noted in the original description overlap with the features observed in the examined syntype of A. transcaucasica, thus A. georgica is probably a junior synonym of this species. Unfortunately, the location of Arnoldi’s collection is unknown and types of A. georgica are probably lost. In this situation we decided to declare A. georgica as a nomen dubium. (Salata et al., 2021)

The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.
- georgica. Aphaenogaster (Attomyrma) georgica Arnol'di, 1968: 1804 (w.) GEORGIA.
- Type-material: holotype worker, 15 paratype workers.
- Type-locality: holotype Georgia: Dmanisi, 29.v.1966 (Ya. Dzhambazishvili); paratypes with same data.
- Type-depositories: ZMUM (holotype); RASM, ZMUM (paratypes).
- [Note: Arnol’di also mentions workers from Georgia: Shiraki (T.I. Zhizhilashvili), and 10 workers from Azerbaijan: Alpout (G.M. Dlussky); it is not obvious if these should also be regarded as paratypes.]
- Status as species: Arnol'di, 1976b: 1024 (in key); Bolton, 1995b: 70; Gratiashvili & Barjadze, 2008: 137; Borowiec, L. 2014: 12; Salata, Karaman, et al. 2021: 340 (nomen dubium).
