- gibbosus. Aenictus gibbosus Emery, in Dalla Torre, 1893: 7 (m.) INDONESIA (Sumatra).
- Type-material: holotype male.
- [Note: this taxon is based on a specimen of A. certus Westwood, sensu Emery, 1889b: 486 (in text), misidentification.]
- Type-locality: Indonesia: Sumatra (no further data).
- Type-depository: MSNG.
- Status as species: Emery, 1910b: 30; Chapman & Capco, 1951: 15; Wilson, 1964a: 482; Bolton, 1995b: 59.
- Distribution: Indonesia (Sumatra).
- Current subspecies: nominal plus ashaverus.
