Ward et al. (2016) -  These ants are characterized by closely approximated metacoxae, elliptical to slit-shaped propodeal spiracle, presence of ocelli in workers, and a double row of stout setae on the metatibia (Bolton 2003). This clade is mostly confined to the Palearctic and Nearctic regions.
