Biology

Castes

C. floricola presents two types of queens: brachypterous (with short non-functional wings) and ergatoid (worker-like apterous queens). Ergatoids are, on average, 2.8 mg lighter and have half the number of ovarioles than brachypterous queens (Amor et al. 2011)

Nomenclature

The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.

  • floricola. Cataglyphis floricola Tinaut, 1993: 125, figs. 1-4 (w.q.m.) SPAIN. [Cataglyphis floricola Cerda, Retana, Carpintero & Cros, 1992: 315. Nomen nudum.]
