Combination in Euponera (Brachyponera): Emery, 1900c: 315; Emery, 1911d: 84; Wheeler, W.M. 1919e: 56; in Brachyponera: Bingham, 1903: 101; in Pachycondyla: Brown, in Bolton, 1995b: 307; in Brachyponera: Schmidt & Shattuck, 2014: 80. Current subspecies: nominal plus continentalis.
