BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Dr. Poldi was a physician with a passionat interest in entomology. He become enamored with insects at an early age. His first insect studies involved Pselaphid beetles (commonly known as ant-loving beetles) but he soon switched to studying Formicidae. Ants become the main focus of his entomological work for the remainder of his life.

Medical work prevented Poldi from having as much time as he would have liked to pursue his entomological studies. Despite his relative modest number of published papers and his status as an amateur entomologist he was, for many years, an important personality in Italian myrmecology. Poldi's collection and entomological library are preserved at the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale (MSNM) in Milano, Italy.

ANT TAXONOMY

Poldi's main interest was the morphology and taxonomy of Palearctic, and especially Mediterranean, species of Tetramorium, Temnothorax and related genera.
