Lodgepole Pine ant fauna; Houston, British Columbia

The study sites were within "sub-boreal spruce biogeoclimatic zone and moist-cold subzone, variant 2 (SBSmc2) (Meidinger & Pojar, 1991). These stands were lodgepole pine-leading (Pinus contorta Dougl. var. latifolia Engelm). Common shrubs in these stands are black huckleberry (Vaccinium membrananceum Douglas ex. Torr.), Sitka alder [Alnus viridis ssp. sinuata (Chiax) D.C.], and black twinberry (Lonicera involucrata Richardson Banks ex. Spreng.); common herbs include kinnikinnick [Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.) Spreng.] and five leaf bramble (Rubus pedatus Banks & Sol. ex. Lowe); and common mosses include red stemmed feathermoss [Pleurozium schreberi (Brid.) Mitt.] and Cladina lichens (Cladina spp. P. Browne) (DeLong et al., 1993).
