BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Conservator of the Zoological Museum of the Ukranian Academy of Science in Kiew.

Vladimir (= Volodimir) Afanasevitch (= Opanasovitch) Karavaiev (= Karawajew), 1864-1939, Director of the Zoological Museum of the Ukraine Academy of Sciences. Karavaev worked on copepods of the Black Sea in the 1890s. He also worked on radiolarians, but is best known as an entomologist (mainly a student of ants).

In a 2005 revision of Lasius Dendrolasius Radchenko noted Karawajew "worked very accurately and left his own collection for the next generations of myrmecologists in perfect condition."
