This big and beautiful shining species is usually found from mid to high altitude, up to 1300 m, the lowest point at 200 m. Usually soil nesting, it can be found under stones also in very humid spots on volcanic charcoal. (Espadaler 2007)

[Misspelled as hesperinus by Forel, 1893d: 464.] Raised to species: Emery, 1920b: 255.
