BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences Morehead State University Morehead, KY 40351 sokeefe@tamu.edu

I am currently a postdoctoral research associate at Texas A&M University working on survey and sampling protocols for the Red Imported Fire Ant (RIFA) (Solenopsis invicta). One project (in collaboration with Robert Coulson, Rebecca Meegan, and Douglas Wunneburger) is the use of DGPS (differential global positioning system) and GIS (geographic information system) to survey for and assess habitat preferences of RIFA in a landscape framework in a post oak savanna. Another project (in collaboration with Jerry Cook and S. Bradleigh Vinson) is to create an identification guide to the common ants of Texas for use by extension entomologists, naturalists, and homeowners. Additional information on fire ants can be reached through the fire ant web site. When I have time, I am still pursuing my research on scydmaenid beetles.
