Help:Stub Removal

AntWiki: The Ants --- Online

The templates used to create the genus and species pages contain Stub notices and a few categories that signify what remains to be done before the Stub can be removed.

Removing Categories

When you are in edit mode for a genus page marked with a stub you will see the following categories included at the very bottom of the editable portion of the page:

Each of these categories should be removed once the appropriate content has been placed on the page, as explained below. To remove a category simply delete the text and the accompanying double set of nested brackets. Please do not remove any other Categories from the named pages.

Overview

The Overview is the first paragraph of text. It is found at the top of the page, above the Table of Contents. A description of the text that should be created here is found on the Genus Page Headings page (the first paragraph) and this Species Page Headings page (in the third paragraph from the top).

Once this overview is added to the page this category should be removed.

Images

In this context images refers to a set of automontage images that are placed in the taxobox that is found at the top right side of every name specific page. Instructions for adding an image to a taxobox can be found here: Adding Taxobox Images.

Once this set of images is added to the page this category should be removed but also be aware of the following:

If there are no automontage images available for a species, the Needs Images category should be removed and this new category added to the list:

Body Text

This refers to the text that is found between the Table of Contents and the end of the editable portion of the page. Deciding the body text is sufficient is a judgment call that depends on a variety of factors. These might include: is the species only known from types, is all the literature relevant to this species cited and summarized (provided there is not a huge number of papers), are the contributions in this section only a small part of what might be known about this species, etc.

Once there is an adequate body of text on the page this category should be removed but also be aware of the following:

If the species is only known from types and all of the relevant information that can be gleaned from the taxonomic publication has been added to the page, the Body Text category should be removed and this new category added to the list:

If there have been more than the types collected but there remains scant information about the biology of the species (or genus), the Body Text category should be removed and this new category added to the list:

Removing the STUB

Here is the Stub notice as it appears on a page:

Daceton armigerum.jpg This is a stub page which contains only a minimal amount of information. Please contribute to AntWiki by adding details based on these short introductions.

When and How should this STUB be removed? See Remove Stub.

In edit mode the Stub is a simple combination of nested curly brackets, text and a semicolon:

Once all three of the categories mentioned in the text above (need overview, need images and need body text) are removed from a page the Stub notice should also be removed. This is accomplished by removing the Stub reference, including the curly brackets, in edit mode and then saving your changes.
