Dlussky-&-Putyatina 2014-43Gesomyrmex-bremii.jpg

Gesomyrmex bremii (originally described as Myrmica bremii) (Dlussky & Putyatina, 2014) does not preserve the eyes and therefore was not included in the analysis undertaken by Aria et al. (2023). Additionally, the diagnosis provided by Dlussky and Putyatina (2014) is insufficient and the specimen too incomplete to justify erection of a new species. Aria et al. (2023) therefore consider this taxon as species inquirenda.

Identification

Diagnosed by Dlussky and Putyatina (2014) based on ‘head longer than in Gesomyrmex flavescens (1.2 times as long as wide in G. flavescens and 1.4 times in G. bremii)’. Head length alone is not diagnostic given the overall data (Aria et al., 2023).

Distribution

This taxon was described from Radoboj, Croatia (Burdigalian, Early Miocene).
