Downloadable Data

AntWiki: The Ants --- Online

AntWiki has a wealth of data scattered across its 31,761 articles. While this is great for exploring ants one at a time, sometimes it's better to download a copy and see everything at once. AntWiki can help by providing downloadable data. These data are either PDFs (for Barry Bolton's Synopsis and Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World) or text files that can be opened using Excel or a database program.

Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World

Barry Bolton, author of the Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World

Barry Bolton continues to revise both the Synopsis and Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World and updated versions are made available regularly. Together these form a single compendium of all taxonomic decisions for ants worldwide, both living and fossil.

Distribution Data

Distrubtion of Acropyga based on World Distribution Data.

Distribution data is recorded using two system. The first is by compiling regional taxon lists. These lists are primarily for countries, but also include major islands (such as New Guinea and Borneo) and other regions of special interest. There are currently just over 250 of these lists. The second system is based on countries and states/provinces. These data are used to generate distribution maps.
