BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

I find ants and other social insects very interesting because of the impact these animals have on most terrestrial ecosystems. I am interested in organisation of insect societies in general, and in the mechanisms of social regulation within the colony in particular. To study this I use colonies of the pharaoh’s ant, Monomorium pharaonis, as a model system. My research projects are usually within the fields of behavioural ecology, where I am studying behaviour, chemical communication, growth rates, fecundity, physiology, morphology and anatomy of glands and other organs.
